Anti-Corrosion Drive Chains for Wastewater Treatment Plants
Wastewater plants are wet industrial environments where chain drives may sit beside screens, pumps, sludge handling equipment and washdown zones. Humidity stays high, condensation is common and process aerosols can contain chemicals that attack both bare steel and unsuitable coatings. A standard carbon-steel roller chain may show surface corrosion quickly if lubricant is displaced or if the machine is difficult to access between service intervals. Zinc-plated ZP chain is a practical option for protected indoor auxiliaries with moderate humidity. Nickel-plated NP chain can be used in cleaner ancillary equipment where a bright surface and light corrosion resistance are useful. Dacromet or modern zinc-flake DR chain is the preferred starting point for wet screening, outdoor pump-station and washdown-adjacent drives. Because wastewater chemistry varies by process, the chain coating, lubricant, shaft seals, sprockets and guarding should be reviewed together. Strong acids, oxidizers, chlorides or immersion can require a different material system entirely.
